It is called Floating MAiZE and is the latest installation by the American artist Jean Shin, inside the Winter Garden of Brookfield Place in New York.
The installation, which has more than 7,000 plastic bottles of Mountain Dew soda, is suspended in the atrium, and thanks to the lights coming in through the large windows create a particular play of colors.
Some of the bottles used in the installation come from Sure We Can, a non-profit recycling organization located in Brooklyn, a neighborhood where the artist lives.

The work, of immediate understanding, is a criticism of waste, of the immoderate use of plastic that ends up in our oceans, but also of the wrong eating habits of the American people who, according to the artist, are creating “the slow pandemic that afflicts the United States, heart disease and diabetes”.

FloFloating MAiZE, part of this year’s River to River Festival, called Four Voices, will be visible until August 30, 2020.
