“Fortaleza”. This is the title of the three works that the Spanish artist Pejac has dedicated to all the doctors and nurses engaged in the front line against the virus.

“The idea of the project was born as a gesture of gratitude to the health workers of Valdecilla for their work in general and during this crisis in particular. Offer them what I do best, which is to paint”.

On the main facade of the building Pejac painted “Caress”, a work in which a patient and a nurse are shown with their personal protective equipment, maintaining the required safety distance, but at the same time they look at each other and touch each other in their shadow cast on the floor, thus symbolizing the need and desire that exists at the present time to have physical contact with patients again.

On a concrete wall of the hospital complex, like a big crack, there is the work “Social Distancing”, a piece that asks not to forget what we have been through and what we are going through.

“Here I represent the wound that this pandemic has left and I do so in homage to the health workers and in respect and solidarity with the victims. I also open a door to hope with many small scenes that invite us to think about a better future.

For the last artwork, instead, the Spanish street artist created it with the help of young cancer patients. In “Overcoming”, this is the title of the work, there is represented a child who with his hands is recreating the famous painting by Van Gogh.

In the piece, a child is leaning against a wheelchair, able to paint higher than the others. This is something that we, as a society, could do: take this crisis and use it to move forward.
