The Botanical Muralism of Guillem Font

-
Anna Frattini

The monumental plants of street artist Guillem Font, along with the organic forms and nature-inspired patterns that define his style, spread across urban surfaces like living organisms, transforming building façades into imaginary ecosystems.

A Spanish artist based between Barcelona and Mexico City, Guillem Font works as an illustrator, muralist, and visual artist, developing a practice that moves between drawing, engraving, animation, and mural painting. At the same time, he was co-director of the artistic collective Ruta Gráfica MX, an experience that strengthened his connection to public space and the communal dimension of muralism.

Font’s distinctive visual language comes from a study of forms found in nature. Plants, animals, biological tissues, and microscopic structures become the starting point for building a visual imaginary made of detailed textures, fluid geometries, and organic compositions that unfold on an architectural scale. The result is a balance between scientific illustration and surreal vision, where natural elements are reinterpreted through a fantastical lens.

Black and white is one of the most recognizable elements of his practice. The absence of color amplifies the complexity of the textures and the dialogue with architecture, allowing the forms to emerge more powerfully and turning buildings into narrative surfaces.

His murals have appeared in different international contexts, across Europe and Latin America, through street art festivals and public projects. In Guillem Font’s works, the wall becomes a fertile territory where nature invades urban space and transforms it into something new.
