A few months ago we talked about the first stage of the 9th edition of Gulìa Urbana, a travelling exhibition dedicated to street art, which took place in the municipality of Santa Sofia D’Epiro. Throughout the summer, the event invaded various villages in Calabria until it arrived in Diamante, a small town in the province of Cosenza.
Here, Gulìa Urbana became the protagonist of “Diamante Murales 40“, the urban art festival celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the first “Operazione Murales“, conceived in 1982 by the painter Nani Razetti, who invited more than 80 international artists to fresco the town’s historic centre. 

Gulìa Urbana participated in the event with four internationally renowned artists. Jorit celebrates street art by painting a portrait of Basquiat, Tony Gallo makes us dream and transports us into a magical world with his dreamlike, anthropomorphic subjects, Kraser has decided to depict Mercury, the messenger of the gods, creating a strong contrast between classicism and street art, and SteReal pays tribute to local traditions by painting a woman weaving peppers. 

Giacomo Marinaro (Gulìa Urbana), Antonino Perrotta (OSA) and Riccardo Buonafede (Manufactory Project) stressed the importance of initiatives such as “Diamante Murales 40” that make art available to the entire community: “The different backgrounds and peculiarities of each of the projects collaborating in a unique event such as Diamante Murales 40 can only be essential for what is the ultimate goal of these realities: to educate and raise awareness of beauty, to provide new critical and reflective points for the generations that live and will live in these places“.
