‘This could be Heaven or this could be Hell’ sang the Eagles inspired by the California of the 80s, and it is precisely this double sensation, this double feeling, that Ian Berry returns in his latest series of works, entitled Hotel California.
Ian Berry is a denim artist and the only tool he uses to make his works is jeans, dark jeans, light jeans, heavy jeans, light jeans, bought jeans, given jeans, but still jeans.
In our opinion, with Hotel California he has reached levels never seen before, succeeding in perfectly reproducing perhaps one of the most difficult subjects that exist: water.
The ripples of the pools, the clarity and reflections, everything is so perfect as to make us doubt that they are works made of jeans. We need the photos of the details to have confirmation, to remove all doubts.
But in addition to a spectacular technique, Ian’s project also surprises for what he manages to convey. We can almost hear the Californian air passing through our hair, the sun burning our skin and the gentle sound of water moving.
