Among the most anticipated guests at Cvtà Street Fest, the street art festival staged June 23-26 in Civitacampomarano (CB), was undoubtedly the Iranian artist duo Icy and Sot.
The duo consists of brothers Saman Oskouei (1985) and Sasan Oskouei (1991), known for their works that intervene in the urban landscape by activating reflections on the human condition. Human rights, detention, the plight of women and migrants, capitalism and climate change, these are some of the themes expressed through installations and stencils.
“In our work we try to reflect our times and our experiences. Mostly insculptural and installation format. We enjoy using different materials/objects As well as doing site specific works. We are not good at describing our work, we think the viewers do a better job as everyone could feel or get something different from the piece.“
In a world that must make strong decisions to solve these problems, Collater.al asked Icy and Sot to take sides in what is utopically a world in which there always seems to be only two contrasting elements to choose between. The artists’ works are also signs in the landscape that somehow define solids and voids, air and matter, specific portions of space.
