The luminous circles you see in the photographs of Jadikan (1981) are not alien apparitions nor were they digitally made, but are instead the result of artistic research and meticulous work that the French artist has developed.
Indeed, starting from Jadikan’s developing interest in light and aware of its power, the photographer researches the effects that light causes on his surroundings: it is able to change their colors, shadows and entire appearance, to the point of dominating our perception of places. In this sense, Jadikan explores environments in the first place, preferring natural ones, devoid of a human presence going in this way to indirectly include a presence that, although natural, is the result of human artifice. Using the technique of light painting, Jadikan’s favorite, he literally draws luminous circles in the sky through the use of a drone equipped with flammable powder.

Jadikan develops a meticulous technique that allows the fireworks to fall to the ground like a shower of light, coming to re-enchant the environment and give it a poetic and spiritual dimension. The camera captures, during a long exposure, the aerial choreography devised by the artist, and the resulting effect is that of timeless sculptures that verge on the cinematic.

The images produced by Jadikan give a new look to these landscapes, already scenic in themselves, but which in this way acquire a new ethereal and surreal dimension. Jadikan’s works will be on view in the “Dimensions Lumières” exhibition to be held at the Le VOG Contemporary Art Center in France from May 20 to July 8, 2023.
