Le ragioni della leggerezza, Carmelo Nicotra’s exhibition

Giulia Guido · 1 year ago · Art

At BOCS in Catania, until 9 March, you can visit a very special and perhaps unique exhibition. Le ragioni della leggerezza is the personal exhibition of Carmelo Nicotra, the contemporary artist born in Agrigento, who with his art investigates the relationship between man and territory.

The title is borrowed from Calvino’s American Lessons and refers to both his artistic research and the attitude of the viewer.

The exhibition consists of installations, interventions on the environment that hosts it and three large sculptures, which perfectly represent the art and the elaboration of Carmelo. The three main pieces are in fact vintage furniture that, in the skillful hands of the artist, are transformed into minimalist sculptures, with geometric shapes and pastel colors. They are works that are halfway between modernism and Duchamp’s ready-made, leaving the viewer perplexed, both with regard to the work and the surrounding environment.

The Harbin Ice Festival and the magnificent ice buildings

The Harbin Ice Festival and the magnificent ice buildings

Giulia Guido · 1 year ago · Art

January and February are the coldest months of the year, so why not organize an Ice Festival? This is what happens in China every year, where, to increase the influx of tourists and take advantage of the cold, is organized the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival, during which a real city built using ice is constructed and opened to the public.

Walking through the snowy streets you will find castles, reconstructions of famous monuments such as the Colosseum, slides, but also a restaurant and a post office from which to send postcards. During the day the sun reveals all the transparencies of the bricks in ice, making the visit fascinating, while at night all the sculptures are illuminated by hundreds of colored lights making the city of Harbin look like a huge amusement park.

The festival can be visited from 5 January to the end of February and is officially closed when temperatures rise and the sun begins to melt the ice.

The Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival has become one of the most visited winter tourist destinations, a paradise for photographers from all over the world, but also a somewhat unusual location for weddings.

NSFW illustrations by Wishyouwerehere

NSFW illustrations by Wishyouwerehere

Claudia Fuggetti · 1 year ago · Art

On Instagram, she is known as  Wishyouwerehere, the artist who makes these NSFW illustrations showing the eroticism and complexity of human relationships. The images are strong and intense, they manage to reach the viewer in an immediate way through the use of metaphors like goldfish, skeletons, devilesses and slaughtered women: everything becomes useful to describe the emotions of the subjects.

The woman is represented as a hard with a tender heart, with a slightly dark mood. The style is reminiscent of artists such as Eromatica who represents the beauty and sensuality of everyday life with great naturalness and spontaneity. Human beings in Matteo Nangeroni’s tattoos

Human beings in Matteo Nangeroni’s tattoos

Claudia Fuggetti · 1 year ago · Art

Matteo Nangeroni is a very famous tattoo artist on Instagram, where his profile has more than one hundred and ninety thousand followers. The reason is very simple, Matteo is really good at what he does, every design he made can always be original, maintaining the consistency of the distinctive traits of his style. His works are mainly in black and white and vary in the style of the stroke: it is the idea that prevails over everything, which shows his great skill and his undeniable talent.

The repertoire of images is rich, often distinguished by the element of the face, which flakes to bring out the soul of the character portrayed and perhaps also that of the wearer. The citations to Klimt’s works are another constant in the works, which always manage to convey a message and the emotions connected to this.
