At BOCS in Catania, until 9 March, you can visit a very special and perhaps unique exhibition. Le ragioni della leggerezza is the personal exhibition of Carmelo Nicotra, the contemporary artist born in Agrigento, who with his art investigates the relationship between man and territory.
The title is borrowed from Calvino’s American Lessons and refers to both his artistic research and the attitude of the viewer.
The exhibition consists of installations, interventions on the environment that hosts it and three large sculptures, which perfectly represent the art and the elaboration of Carmelo. The three main pieces are in fact vintage furniture that, in the skillful hands of the artist, are transformed into minimalist sculptures, with geometric shapes and pastel colors. They are works that are halfway between modernism and Duchamp’s ready-made, leaving the viewer perplexed, both with regard to the work and the surrounding environment.
