Away from the East and West Coasts, travelling to the centre of the United States and leaving behind cities such as New York, Washington or San Francisco, it is possible to discover another America. Margaret Durow takes us on a walk through Wisconsin and its beautiful landscapes.
Born in 1989, Margaret Durow is a photographer who started shooting as a teenager, capturing the days spent with friends. Then her camera started to focus on something else: her surroundings, but also herself.
Browsing through her Instagram profile or visiting her website, we can see how photos of sunsets and endless fields of grass alternate with those of her fragile but indestructible body. Margaret uses photography to tell her story, the moods she feels, trying to empathise with the viewer.
When Margaret Durow was five years old, she was found to have a benign tumour on her spine. The various operations she had to undergo marked her existence and her body, and today she shows us the scars on her skin to tell us what she feels under those scars.
Margaret imprints her moods on us and we can’t help but be transported by her shots: on tiptoe we become witnesses to her life, her body becomes ours and the relief we feel looking at the landscapes she photographs couldn’t be truer.
