Marina Abramović wants to become immortal

We are in Pesaro, this year’s Italian Capital of Culture, and today June 18 there is Marina Abramović to officially present her performance The Life, shown for the first time at the Serpentine Gallery in 2019 and already open in Pesaro since June 5. This is a novelty in Ambramović’s research, which here goes beyond the boundaries of the body to delve into the world of the digital, or rather, the virtual. Holograms have been talked about for years, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic that forced us to have no physical human interactions. Here was Marina, two years before this requirement, conceiving a performance work without the concrete body element but only in the form of a hologram with the help of Tin Drum and directed by Todd Eckert.

As she told the press, this is her «first attempt with new technologies reflecting on how the work of a performance artist can be seen even without the presence of the artist himself/herself, even after his/her passing.» In short, after the launch of her Longevity Method skincare line, it seems clear that Marina Abramović is quite obsessed with the theme of longevity and that, with this performance, she is already thinking about her heritage and how to become truly immortal.
