At the eve of the millenium, B.I.G and Snoop Dog records are playing, while 50 Cent is tryin’ to get rich and Missy Elliot is workin’ it. Men have already been rapping rhymes in their baseball suits, finished with chunky gold chains and women are starting to attract attention with their soul flow and their practical but sensual apparel.
This is the scenery Alberto Devecchi has in mind, the milanese photographer renowned for his black and white shots telling the contemporary urban reality of some districts of the city. Collaborating with stylist Tatiana “Nala Emm” Ciardo, the duo recreated the style of the end of millenium, referring to an old cultural moment that gave life to a new way of dressing, revolutionizing the world of music, fashion and dance. To the baggy look, characteristic of the New York neighborhoods, are added elements representing the wealth and richness obtained thanks to music.
