The experience of each of us influences our character, like a transformation that seems to change even the features of our body and how we appear on the outside. Italian photographer Matteo Ribet starts from a negative personal experience, trying to portray the way it led to a fall of certain certain certainties and thus of what one’s identity was based on. Ribet’s portraits are thus like fictitious identities, masks in which materials such as wax alter the natural appearance of faces.
The project called “Scandal” shows the body as a portal to overcome inner pain, the conduit for reconciliation that passes through a theatrical use of the image. The present cannot but appear grotesque, bizarre, almost hallucinatory and pointing straight toward freedom of expression and sexual identification.

The experience of life becomes a staging, a performative act that has no points of contact with reality but only with a past seen as a wound to be healed.
The break with reality is the great strength of the photographs of Matteo Ribet, whose work will be featured in the selection of the Liquida Photofestival in Turin 2023.
