Grace Prince is a young designer based in Zurich. From a first glance, it is evident how her practice tends toward a marriage of rigidity and naturalness, dictated by the contrast created by the juxtaposition of materials at odds with each other. This stems from her multidisciplinary experiences. In fact, the designer tries her hand at carpentry, sculpture and set design, becoming familiar with materials such as marble and wood. Grace Prince calls her approach to design “Gestural Assembly” in that she centers her practice on authenticity, entropy and gesture, then declines the works with a purely functional vision. The pieces are handcrafted by the artist herself and by artisans she relies on.

Her design pieces, such as “Static fragility” and “Standing collapse” in a way highlight human prerogatives, evoked by the titles themselves, such as a sense of fragility, emotional instability, fleetingness and the feeling of belonging to a precarious world. Grace Prince in an interview with AD says “Each collection focuses on a specific feeling of (feigned) delicacy and movement – referred to in its title – in the understanding that an object becomes more poetic in the suspense of destructive action.

On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2023, Grace Prince exhibits her work in the exhibition “Displaced Line” at Oxilia Gallery in collaboration with artist Beatrice Bonino.
