Mc Donald’s presented his new restaurant at the Walt Disney World resort in Florida.
A restaurant different from the usual to which we are accustomed, designed by Ross Barney Architects, the new fast food creates on-site renewable energy sufficient to cover 100% of its energy needs on a net annual basis.
The building is shaped like a “shed” in response to Florida’s humid climate. The new 745 square meter restaurant has a V-shaped roof with solar panels, while glass photovoltaic panels are integrated throughout the building. In total there are 1,740 square meters of solar panels and 447 square meters of photovoltaic panels.
The room will be ventilated for about 65% of the year due to the torrid temperatures. Ross Barney Architects have thought of special “jalousie” windows that are operated by humidity and temperature sensors outside automatically close when air conditioning is needed to reduce waste.
In addition, outside the well-known restaurant there will be over 1,700 meters of plants that absorb carbon dioxide, while promoting biodiversity and water retention.
A journey that Mc Donald’s in the world of environmental sustainability, with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 36% in restaurants and offices by 2030 compared to 2015, the reference year.
