Mercedes deBellard, a Spanish freelance illustrator who lives and works in Madrid, has made herself known for her hyperrealistic style and is strongly influenced by the world of TV series.
It’s not surprising, in fact, to find among her most beloved works characters such as Dale Cooper of Twin Peaks or Mike of Stranger Things: this underlines the great impact that pop and film culture has had on the new generations of artists.
A clear example, although not part of a new wave of artists, is Alex Gross, who recently dedicated a series of surrealist paintings to the saga of the Throne of Swords, of which we have previously spoken here.
What wins and surprises of every illustration is the great care and meticulous realism of Mercedes, able to show the emotions of the subjects with great naturalness and sensitivity. All the scenes are also translated with a typically feminine delicacy, which digs into the hearts of the characters and makes them almost human.
