Short video for Breakfast – Mirror City, if the city were closed in a kaleidoscope

The kaleidoscope has always been one of my favorite objects, and the video Mirror City made by photographer Michael Shainblum recreates the classic effect of the kaleidoscope but realized with the time-lapse shooting of streets and views of some of the most famous American cities.

At the beginning of the video you will be able to recognize them, Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas, Los Angeles. Then, however, the images speed up and the mirror effect multiplies. Michael plays with the shapes of the buildings, with the traffic lights and the lines of the streets.

To get to the final aspect of the video, the San Francisco photographer worked for about four months, an extremely long period, but the result was definitely worth it.

“I wanted to create a video that was completely out of the norm. I wanted to showcase something unique and artistic, which takes Timelapse photography into a more abstract direction.”
