Like every month comes our selection of film and serial products that will arrive on Netflix during this month January.
A Series of Unfortunate Events 3: Here comes the third and final chapter of the first literary, then cinematographic and finally the serial trilogy, conceived by Lemony Snicket. The 3 unfortunate Baudelaire brothers, both beloved by the youth and adults have managed to conquer nostalgic lovers and new spectators over the years and will be distributed starting from the 1st of January. But let’s not despair, Netflix has already scheduled many other series inspired by novels worshipped by children, among which The Chronicles of Narnia and an anthology series based on Roald Dahl‘s children novels.
Titans: if this is not the best period for Marvel’s superheroes, for the DC competitor is instead a great moment. Titans, in fact, is a comic series that sees Robin, Batman’s famous partner, trying to build his team of superheroes: the Titans precisely. The super team will be formed by Robin, the alien Starfire, the demonic Raven and finally Beast Boy. In contrast to the Marvelian serial productions, in which the almost total lack of special effects is replaced by the violent fight choreography, in the DC series, we will see a massive and successful use of digital technology, as can easily be seen from the first trailer. Titans is a product created specifically for the new DC streaming portal, Netflix will launch the Italian distribution, precisely on 11 January.
Manchester by the Sea: a poignant and poetic film presented at the 2017 Academy Awards, has brought home, thanks to the magnificent Casey Affleck, the best interpretation for a male protagonist, even if in my opinion it should have won the best film award. As anticipated in the first lines, Manchester by the Sea is not an easy film, it is not a film to watch lightly for a couple of hours. Manchester by the Sea is a film that puts the viewer to the test, providing food for thought thanks to its perfect direction and interpretation of characters. But I do not want to say too much. The film will be available on Netflix on January 14th.
The Punisher 2: it’s an Unlucky period for Marvel‘s Netflix heroes. After iron fist’s cancellation, Lucke Cage and recently even Daredevil, are the few bulwarks that continue to resist. Among these we find Punisher, a new series with a former Marines as the protagonist, Frank Castle transformed in a death machine to avenge his family. After meeting the character in the previous season, this time the Punisher will face a Christian fundamentalist. So let’s prepare for a bloody second season that will certainly raise a lot of controversies. The series will be available from 18 January.
Polar: the last awaited release of this first month of 2019 is Polar. Definitely not a well-known name, but once again comic book fans will be very happy in January. Polar is the film about the famous killer Black Kaiser (which will be played by no less than the incredible Mads Mikkelsen), based on a graphic novel from the Dark Horse (comic house famous for Hellboy, Sin City and 300). In the cast, in addition to the aforementioned Danish star, we will see Vanessa Hudgens and Matt Lucas. Unfortunately, no trailer has been released yet, but we are sure it will be available on Netflix on January 25th. We just have to wait.
