NIGO has designed a public toilet in Tokyo

he incredible eclecticism and creative talent of NIGO was not discovered today.
The Japanese designer, whose real name is Tomoaki Nagao, over the years has put together a series of successes in every possible field becoming a reference point and icon of pop culture.

Founder and creator of A Bathing Ape, Billionaire Boys Club, Ice Cream Footwear and Human Made, original member of the Stüssy International Tribe, DJ and music producer, NIGO is the epitome of what it means to be influential and decisive when it comes to charting the course of coolness.

City of Tokyo and Nippon Foundation have realized the project “THE TOKYO TOILET”, which consists in the design of public toilets in the Japanese capital and precisely in the most famous district of the city, that of Shibuya.

The one realized by NIGO is located in Harajuku, the fashionable and young district of Tokyo, and is a building with a minimal, clean and retro aesthetic, in total contrast with the skyscrapers that surround it. The entire realization of NIGO’s public toilet focused on comfort and ease of access and use, two fundamental elements for a public restroom.

The toilet looks a lot like a small house, with a brown roof, white walls, and mint green window and front door frames.

Some of the sixteen designers involved in “THE TOKYO TOILET” project are: Sosuke, Mark Newson, Kazu Sato, Kashiwa Sato, Tomohito Go, Miles Pennington and Junko Kobayashi.
Currently, eight public toilets have already been opened to the public while the remaining nine are expected to be completed by the end of March 2022.
