«In this series, I explore teeth as a record of human experience,» tells us the artist Nika Sandler, who bases her research on the investigation of the disturbing and disgusting element. In this series, titled A History of Teeth, her intention is clear: to delve into the secrets and mysteries of the human being through a body part as crucial as teeth. They can evoke disgust, revulsion, but they can also be sensual, embodying an aesthetic paradox. On one side, eroticism; on the other, repulsion. Beyond the aesthetic aspect, Sandler goes beyond human perception and delves into the scientific realm, studying plaque bacteria, offering an alternative view of our mouths and the story our teeth tell. In exploring the duality between pleasure and the disgusting, Sandler invites viewers to reflect on the deeper meaning of teeth as bearers of human experiences. Her research spans from sensory physicality to technological vision, creating a space where the body becomes a canvas rich in narratives.
