Can the work of an established artist cost less than fifty euros? It seems impossible, but the answer is yes. We are talking about the artist’s receipts by British artist Jonathan Monk (1969), known for his irreverent art. Those familiar with Monk know that his art is conceptual, often appropriating and ironically referencing elements from the world of contemporary art, so his series on receipts doesn’t surprise art enthusiasts. For some years now, Monk has been using actual receipts and payment receipts from bars and restaurants as the support for his works, on which he draws with various styles, also citing other artists. One of our favorites is the one where he pays homage to the Italian artist Alighiero Boetti or even the one with Andy Warhol’s iconic banana. The interesting aspects undoubtedly include the sales, which take place on Instagram, and the price, which corresponds to the amount shown on the receipt.
