Confronting an iconic model is never easy, but neither is it impossible. That’s what Slam Jam demonstrated with the highly anticipated Nike Slam Jam Dunk.Â
Created in 1985 with the goal of creating a shoe for the various American college basketball teams, the Nike Dunk was initially released in 12 colors, one for each team, and accompanied by the “Be True to Your School” campaign. Since then, it took very little to get out of the college halls and straight into the street, at the feet of skaters and writers, becoming an icon of the streetwear style of the 90s.Â
Its history and the cultural environment in which it has survived, has made this model the perfect canvas for Slam Jam which, just like Nike Dunk, plays a fundamental role in the world of contemporary street culture.
The idea for Nike Slam Jam Dunk was not to distort the iconic design but to incorporate well-thought-out elements that represent the whole soul of Slam Jam. First of all, is the Swoosh upside down on the tongue, but also the side Swooshes that join on the heel, the translucent soles and a new reinterpretation of the classic Dunk perforation.Â
“This Dunk expresses both simplicity and attention to innovative details that, combined with our rebellious attitude, define the DNA of Slam Jam“, said Luca Benini, founder of Slam Jam.
Nike Slam Jam Dunk Slam Jam has been made in two different colorways, one grey available exclusively from Slam Jam and SNKRS, and one black that will be available from October 30 at selected retailers.Â
