It is very likely that in his previous life the photographer Nirav Patel was a skilled Dutch painter, perhaps a friend of Jan Vermeer. After Hopper and Caravaggio, a great source of inspiration for photography could not but be the Dutch painting of the seventeenth century.

The key element of the construction of each image is the window, from which almost always filters a ray of light of great effect, capable of illuminating only part of the face of the protagonists, so as to generate emotions in the viewer.

It is no coincidence that Vermeer used the darkroom to make his meticulous paintings, as claimed by the famous English painter David Hockney in his book The Secret Unveiled, even in the photos of Nirav details and color rendering are impeccable. His women are almost always a bit melancholic and wear very vintage-style clothes, which contribute to the construction of a well-defined imaginary.

Empty eyes, assorted glances and lost in the void feed the mystery that surrounds its protagonists who seem to wait for something that never happens.
