norda rewrites the rules of trail running

Montreal has never been a capital of sports fashion. Yet it’s there, among the woods and cold of eastern Quebec, that norda was born in 2020, a trail running shoe brand that in just a few years has earned a place among the most respected (and coveted) names in the industry.

Not a giant, not a spin-off of an already established sports brand: norda started from scratch, from an idea as simple as it was ambitious, that of building the shoe its own founders couldn’t find on the market. Too soft, not durable enough, unable to hold up against the ice and rock of the Eastern Townships. From there came the choice to design one themselves.

The result is a catalog stripped down to the essentials, made up of just a few models, each with a specific function, and an aesthetic that has become a reference point. We’re talking minimal silhouettes, desaturated palettes, materials that speak more to technical research than to a marketing strategy. Without ever setting out to chase trends, norda has become a trend in its own right, capable of crossing the line between technical runners and those simply looking for a sneaker with a strong, precise identity.

Today the brand adds a new chapter with the 055, a shoe capable of going anywhere, built to handle every terrain and every distance. If the 005 represented the extreme end of lightness, the 055 flips that logic. A higher stack, a more structured collar, a reinforced heel: the result of two years of development aimed at building a tool that doesn’t force the wearer to choose between stability and speed.

The materials are top-shelf too. The upper is made from bio-circular Dyneema®, a technical fabric up to 15 times stronger than steel by weight, yet light and breathable enough to be used, for the first time, even in the sawtooth laces. It’s also the first norda shoe to introduce a knit collar and tongue, designed to offer a more secure fit while keeping debris and small stones from working their way inside during a run. Underneath, a midsole made entirely of Arnitel® TPEE delivers an energy return rate above 75%: more than three-quarters of the energy exerted with every footfall is returned to the runner. Unlike traditional foams, which lose responsiveness in extreme temperatures, Arnitel® holds onto its mechanical properties in both heat and cold.

The outsole, developed in collaboration with Vibram®, combines Megagrip Elite® and Litebase® technologies: the first for grip that stays consistent across every type of surface, the second to shave 30% off the plate’s weight. The lug design draws on the historic 001A, keeping its placement and depth while lightening up the secondary linework.

“Every one of our shoes is a specific tool for a specific purpose,” said co-founder Nick Martire, explaining how the 055 was built to be explosive and stable at the same time.

The shoe has already been field-tested by the norda Trail Team throughout the 2026 racing season, including Rachel Entrekin’s record-breaking run at Cocodona 250. The Strato colorway will be available in presale for newsletter subscribers starting July 8 on the norda website.
