O.G. is the new revelation film by HBO with Jeffrey Wright as a protagonist. The film is directed by Madeleine Sacker (an award-winning documentarist known primarily for The Lottery) and is part of the narrative-documentary genre. Perhaps it’s precisely this hybrid aspect that makes O.G. an extremely interesting product. The story is in fact totally set in the prison, in which even real prisoners of that penitentiary took part in the recitation. Reality and fiction are intertwined to give the viewer a true cross-section of real prison life but at the same time, we are shown a moving and well-structured affair. The plot sees Louis, a middle-aged man (played by Jeffrey Wright), who is now serving a sentence of 24 years. The happiness and quiet, which the protagonist is finally breathing, is being severely tested by the arrival of Beecher, a newly arrested boy whom Louis joins, risking to compromise the much-desired freedom, with the intention of protecting him from the environment. The film will see the light in the U.S.A. on February 23rd and we hope to see him soon also here in Italy.
