Permeable Membrane, il libro fotografico di Chantal Convertini | Collater.al

Some time ago we talked about Chantal Convertini‘s photography, her analogical, sensual and delicate shots, in which a perfect dialogue between light and human bodies is created.

Now the young photographer is ready to unveil her latest work: it is called Permeable Membrane, the first photographic book by Chantal Convertini that will be officially presented on November 29th in Basel.

Permeable Membrane seems to be the photographer’s response to the increasingly harsh restrictions on social media that prohibit nudity. The nude has always been part of her art and, for this very reason, for this project Chantal has decided to distance herself from the censorship imposed by the web, algorithms and limitations, creating something tangible and concrete.

The book contains a selection of shots taken in the last 4 years, some already known and others unpublished, which although they were taken at different times have surprisingly something in common.

I try to name it
what it is
that glues everything together
the light
the bodies
the sad
the strong
it’s so easy to see
that they have something in common

And while Chantal Convertini sought the elements in common, the chapters were born: The sad, The light, The body, The strong, and a story was also born.

“My images and the book talk about losing a love, the weight of its absence, it talks about the things you find when life is darkest, about how the light came back bit by bit, about the bodies that are the homes of all our emotions and about how being okay with yourself is the most priceless power you can attain.”
