The details are what really make the difference in a job. From today, we could admire in detail Rembrandt‘s famous “The Night Watch“, a group of scholars has in fact made a digital copy of 44,804,687,500 pixels. To create it, the researchers captured 528 exposures of the canvas, then entrusted them to neural networks to obtain, as a final result, an ultra-detailed digital reproduction.
The oil painting, with its imposing dimensions – we are talking about 363×437 cm – is considered one of the greatest masterpieces of the Dutch master, because of the vivid execution of the details and the exceptional use of light.
The initiative, funded by the Rijksmuseum, is part of a larger project aimed at restoring the painting in question, a process that has been suspended due to the necessary distance imposed by covid-19. In any case, the photograph will be used by the restorers to study the work and monitor its condition. The image will also be used to accurately trace any future aging process that occurs in the painting.
Here is Rembrandt’s work as you’ve never seen it!
