Rick Owens and Birkenstock are back together for a new collaboration for Spring/Summer 2021. This represents the third joint venture between the American designer and the German brand founded in 1774 and specialized in the production of the unmistakable sandals.
This new collaboration sees three of Birkenstock’s most famous and beloved silhouettes reworked by Rick Owens: the Arizona, Boston and Rotterdam.
All three models will be available in black leather, plus there is an extra version of the Boston and Arizona in iridescent foiled leather.
Speaking about the project, Rick Owens stated: “…I wanted everything in black — black leather, black patent leather and all-black hardware. In a busy, chaotic and garish world, black provides a clean and crisp graphic formality to my eyes. I think everything I have ever learned was from Fritz Lang and Cecil B. DeMille. Black and white imagery seen through a vintage film texture patina, stories of vice versus morality and the glamour of the period in which they were filmed. I always imagined those apostles dragging their robes through dusty temples wearing Birkenstock sandals…”.
