Los Angeles fire on the pages of Sho Shibuya’s newspapers

In recent years, we have come to know the work of Sho Shibuya. During the lockdown caused by the Covid pandemic in 2020, the Japanese graphic designer, who grew up in New York, decided to transform the front pages of The New York Times into windows open to skies of ever-changing colors. Over the years, he has continued to turn the front pages of the famous American newspaper into artworks that narrate major current events, from the vaccination campaigns to the election of the new President.

Always attentive to using art as a means to personally interpret the events that shake the world, Shibuya recently shared two new front pages on his Instagram profile, painted in shades of red and orange. The subject could only be the fires that have been ravaging Los Angeles for the past three days. The inspiration for these new artworks comes directly from two photographs taken in recent days, documenting the severity of the situation.
