Street art is experiencing an extraordinary moment of popularity, evolving from an underground phenomenon into a recognized and celebrated artistic language worldwide. Among the initiatives that have contributed to this evolution is undoubtedly Street Art Cities, a global platform that, through its dedication and community, documents and promotes urban art on an international scale. Once again this year, it’s time for the Street Art Awards 2024, and all enthusiasts have the chance to vote for the best murals of the year.

Street Art Cities was born in 2016 as a small project driven by the passion of two art lovers to map street art in their cities. In just a few years, it has become the world’s largest platform dedicated to urban art. Today, with over 70,000 artworks mapped in more than 1,850 cities across over 100 countries, Street Art Cities is an indispensable tool for anyone looking to explore and appreciate the world of street art.

The platform offers interactive maps, curated routes, information about artists, and an active community that helps keep its extensive database updated. Thanks to its innovative approach, Street Art Cities has become not only a reference point for enthusiasts but also a valuable resource for artists and researchers, enabling the analysis of urban art from cultural and social perspectives.

The Street Art Awards are one of the most anticipated events for urban art lovers. Each year, the platform honors the best murals created worldwide, divided into various categories that reflect the many facets of this artistic language. For the 2024 edition, the main categories are three: Expert Choice, where an international jury selects the most significant works based on technique, originality, and social impact; Artist Choice, a new addition this year, where artists vote for the works that have inspired them the most; People’s Choice, the most popular category, allowing the global public to cast their votes.

Italy is increasingly standing out on the international street art scene, and this year, several Italian talents are competing for the Best Awards 2024. Among the most renowned names are Blu, an iconic artist known for his socially impactful works, and Millo, celebrated for his murals characterized by a poetic and visionary language. Alongside them are artists like Vesod, Alberto Ruce, Igor Scalisi Palmieri, Davide Andreazza, and Uman.

Equally significant are the works of international artists created in Italy, confirming the country as one of the most sought-after destinations for street art festivals. From Megan Oldhues’ murals in Sicily to Aryz’s works in Tuscany, and from Taxis’ creations in Puglia to Snik’s murals in Molise, Italy remains a crossroads of creativity and artistic experimentation.

The jury consists of ten international experts tasked with evaluating the artworks based on technique, originality, and cultural significance. Among the jury members are two Italians: Giacomo Marinaro, curator and artistic director, and founder of Gulìa Urbana, a project that has transformed Italian towns and villages into open-air museums, and Giulia Riva, author and blogger who has helped bring visibility to Italian urban art both nationally and internationally.
