Sicilia Fantasma, the photographic series by Pietro Motisi

Born in 1982, Pietro Motisi was born in Palermo and, after approaching self-taught photography, he decided to follow a course to specialize in Documentary Photography at the University of Wales in Newport. Even during his studies he never stopped shooting, working on personal projects or on commission, developing his own style and cut.

Through his photographs, Pietro Motisi analyzes the deep bond that unites man with the environment around him, the space in which he lives. For this reason in many of his photographs the natural landscape blends with elements of architecture or objects, traces of man’s presence.

Among his projects, the one that struck us the most and the one from which this research of his is Sicilia Fantasma. These are a series of shots taken between 2012 and 2018 that shows us a unique and personal vision of the territory, in this case of territory very dear to him.

Pietro Motisi accompanies us on a journey that forces us to reflect on the importance of our actions, our presence and the responsibilities that each of us has towards what surrounds us.

Below you can find a selection of shots of Sicilia Fantasma, to find out more go to Pietro Motisi’s website.
