Le illustrazioni surrealiste di Aaron Lowell Denton | Collater.al

With its illustrations, vibrant, bright colors, abstract motifs, and nostalgic emotions, Aaron Lowell Denton‘s work has attracted the attention of some of the world’s most beloved musicians, including Stereolab, Tame Impala, The War on Drugs, Coin, Anemone. The difficult task is to transpose the sound of these great artists into his paintings with exceptional aesthetics. Over time his works have become more refined, detailed and have acquired a precise identity. ALD has gone from posters to album covers, logos, mixing illustration and calligraphy, for a dreamlike result.

I was looking back at some of the work I was doing in 2017 and I couldn’t even recognize it as my own in a way” says Aaron. “I still do a lot of posters, which is great for experimenting and trying new things, but I enjoy the commissioned collaborations more, they are more engaging. It’s fun to discuss an idea and develop someone else’s vision, instead of just living in your own visual environment all the time. I guess it’s about getting out of the comfort zone“.

Aaron Lowell Denton is one of the surrealist illustrators, made of gradients and dreamy images. He is inspired by artists like Kandinsky, Miro, and Bridget Riley. His most recent works are less abstract but still remain images to be studied and interpreted.

The cover of Texas Sun, is his simplest work, i.e. different from the way the artist usually works but that fit well with the music of the bands that collaborated on the album – Khruangbin and Leon Bridges – “sometimes less is better”. Another very significant work is the manifesto for the Stereolab show. The event, unfortunately, jumped due to the Coronavirus emergency but even, in this case, the artist has shown his willingness to upgrade from time to time. The work shows how good he is at merging geometry and typography, another subject of his long study and work.
