Dublin-born fashion designer Simone Rocha has stepped out of the fashion comfort zone to use her art world outsider charisma to personally curate girls, girls, girls.
A new and large group exhibition that intends to show us the female vision from multiple points of view celebrating a diverse range of approaches, in what is an exhibition linked by a single thread despite the collection put together by Rocha is enormously varied, both from the point of view of the nationality of the artists involved and from that of their age.
The exhibition has been set up at the striking Lismore Castle in the countryside of Waterford, Ireland – thus her home – and features celebrities such as Louise Bourgeois – who has long been a source of inspiration for Simone – Cindy Sherman and Roni Horn, but also a number of young artists including Sophie Barber, Elene Chantladze, Luo Yang and Genieve Figgis.
All of the women artists involved were chosen for their works that “inspire, challenge convention, and engage in supporting femininity and its subversive characteristics. I wanted them all to speak to each other”, Roche stated.
girls, girls, girls, the exhibition curated by Simone Rocha at St Carthage Hall & Lismore Castle Arts, will be open to the public through October 30.
