For the FW 23/24 collection, Southfresh has combined the original patterns of the brand in the Licheni version with graffiti dating back to the Neolithic period located in the Grotto of the Deer in Porto Badisco, Salento, Puglia. A series of rich pictograms carry hidden meanings that Southfresh reinterprets, making them adaptable to the world of streetwear.
The Grotto of the Deer is aptly referred to as the Sistine Chapel of the Neolithic and was discovered in 1970. Unfortunately, it is not accessible to the public but contains an extremely interesting pictorial complex for archaeologists. The figures that animate this cave include hunters, animals, various objects, and magical symbols, which, together with abstract geometries and scenes of deer hunting, create a magical atmosphere in the cave. The decision to merge the Licheni fantasy with that of the graffiti aligns with the goal of becoming one of the streetwear brands capable of representing Southern Italy.
The story of these graffiti featured on pieces of the FW 23/24 collection reveals a historically interesting aspect of places like Porto Badisco, a flagship of Southern Italy, to be reinterpreted and made wearable.
