A few days ago the MVRDV studio unveiled its project for the Olympic complex, which was presented in view of the Paris Games in 2024. Unfortunately, the Dutch studio‘s idea was not the winning one, but it stands out so much for innovation and beauty that it immediately caught the attention of many.
Developed near the already existing Olympic Stadium, the complex distances itself from its architectural style, presenting itself as a rectangular building whose fulcrum is obviously the aquatic center, with its Olympic swimming pools for swimming, diving, water polo and synchronized swimming competitions. Visually, this building has a strong impact, the light concrete roof and wall coverings stand out thanks both to their undulating and sinuous shape and to their contrast with the surrounding park.

In addition, in order to have the least impact on the environment and to best blend in with it, the undulating roof of the building was designed as a sheet that rests on the ground, but instead of being empty and bare, the architects thought of covering it with a wide selection of plants and trees.
Around this central structure, the MVRDV studio thought to place several attractions, to allow visitors to spend the whole day inside the Olympic center without ever getting bored and having all the comforts at their disposal. We, therefore, find plans for a covered climbing area, fitness areas, an area for children, but also spaces for coworking and, of course, refreshment areas with bars and restaurants.

The aim of the Dutch study was to present a project that would be able to survive after the Games and that would offer the inhabitants of this area services that they could use every day.
For the time being, the MVRDV study remains only a project, but we still hope that it will find a new location.
