Starry skies and many dreams are what characterizes the profile Instagram @theadventuresofastrangesoul. There is so much beauty before our eyes and this strange soul likes to capture it, offering its thirty-three thousand followers a fragment of this global dream every day.

The scenes are almost all captured and designed to shine at night, because at night, you know, things always appear different as they emerge from the darkness. The feed is characterized by yellow tones, which stand out against a turquoise background: this color correction has become the trademark of @theadventuresofastrangesoul’s images.

Two hands touching each other, a carousel spinning madly, that moment when you look out the window and think: here everything is magic, everything is part of the artist’s poetic over-emphasis.

So stop for a moment, take a look at Instagram and daydream with us.

Stories in the photographs of Cian Oba-Smith

Stories in the photographs of Cian Oba-Smith

Claudia Fuggetti · 3 months ago · Photography

Cian Oba-Smith is a London-based photographer who has focused his artistic research on the relationship between the subjects he loves to capture and their places of belonging. Through his sophisticated and never artificial style, the artist tells the stories of those who live in often forgotten communities, such as the African-American knights of Philadelphia and the rapidly depleting community of Tory Island.

While claiming to be attracted to themes that concern him personally, he has often shot outside the UK, in countries as far away as China, where he has tried to give a visual response to the social issues that characterize the world in which we live.

“I think the difficulty of modern culture is that photography is spread and consumed at such a fast pace that it is difficult to distinguish between a real story and a built one”.

The dialogue with these realities is fundamental to get to have quality shots, which want to be beautiful to look at, but especially interesting to discover.

Have a look at Cian Oba-Smith’s website here.

Justin Dingwall, when diversity is a value

Justin Dingwall, when diversity is a value

Claudia Fuggetti · 3 months ago · Photography

South African photographer and visual artist Justin Dingwall constructs images with a strong visual impact, capable of immediately capturing the attention of the viewer. Through well-studied form and composition, all images explore a wide range of important themes, from xenophobia in South Africa to the obsolete stereotypes of albinism.

Justin Dingwall has always been concerned with minorities and the “different”, as in his 2016 Albus series, in which he questions our understanding of albino beauty.

A Seat at the Table is the name of another sequence of images that creatively exploit everyday objects. The model of the series, Moostapha, is affected by vitiligo, a condition that is not hidden, but exalted.

In Fly by Night, the artist uses the fairy tale of the Ugly Duckling to comment on the issue of xenophobia in South Africa. Dingwall transposes this metaphor into his photographic series, using a real black swan. His imagination becomes an active part in the transposition of complex themes and they want to direct the public in the right direction, which one?

The one who sees diversity as a value.

It is no coincidence that the artist has repeatedly stated that his work is not about race, politics or fashion, but about perception and “what we subjectively perceive as beautiful”.

West Coast, California through Sam Wright’s eyes

West Coast, California through Sam Wright’s eyes

Giulia Guido · 3 months ago · Photography

There are aspects and atmospheres that only a camera can capture. Through his lens, British photographer Sam Wright captures the places and people he lives and meets on his travels. It is the link between the where and the who that fascinates the photographer, who is able to capture it and return it to the viewer of his photographs. The series entitled West Coast is composed of a selection of shots that Sam Wright has taken in California and the result is extraordinary.

The scenery we see is far from the California we imagine, the one made by mega villas, luxury cars, and surfers. Sam’s attention is focused on aspects that we can define as more real: the cafeterias, the small detached houses, the desert and especially the people.

In our gallery, you will find a selection of photographs of the West Coast.

The Blue Moment, the city seen from Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze

The Blue Moment, the city seen from Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze

Claudia Fuggetti · 3 months ago · Photography

The blue hour in the photographic tradition is that particular moment of the day that concerns the sunset, more in detail, the last moments before the sun disappears completely in the sky. The photographer Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze knows what we are talking about since his photographic project The Blue Moment is dedicated to the blue hour.

The story of the project, as the artist tells us, is very simple:

“One particular day I was shooting the city at sunset, bright light washed out most of the colors, you could feel the heat through the images. I decided to stay a little longer to watch the sun going down and the city lighting up. I witnessed how just for few minutes the city was enveloped in a deep blue haze. The blueness projected itself ferociously onto the buildings that looked colorless just a little while before. I was deeply impressed”.

We live this moment every day, yet we can’t see the magic that surrounds us, that’s why Romain decided to dedicate his project to the beauty of the blue hour that catapults the city of Hong Kong into an almost spiritual dimension.

Through a skillful composition of the image, the artist has accentuated the aesthetic power of the particular light condition, proposing images that blend the natural element with the urban one in an almost surreal and dreamlike way.

The Blue Moment represents the perfect balance between the visual strength of the city and the undeniable power of nature.
