Due to the lockdown and quarantine imposed by Coronavirus all museums in the world have been forced to close their doors. Some museums have opened their doors “virtually”, we’ve already told you about this here.
In addition to admiring works of art through a smartphone, a PC, or a tablet, a beautiful project has been implemented in Great Britain these days. You can enjoy the masterpieces kept at the National Gallery in London while you go to work or while you go shopping.
The Nation’s Gallery is now on the nation’s streets, is the name of the initiative of the National Gallery realized thanks to the support of Ocean Outdoor, a company specialized in outdoor digital screens.
For two weeks in the streets of Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Southampton will be “exhibited”, so to speak, on the big screens of Ocean Outdoor the seven most visited works of the London museum.
Sunflowers and Wheat Field with Cypresses by Vincent van Gogh, Water Lily Pond by Claude Monet, Portrait of the Arnolfini couple by Jan van Eyck, Bathers at Asnières by Georges Seurat, Self-portrait with straw hat by Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun and Surprise! by Henri Rousseau.
A way to give people inspiration and comfort in these difficult times, while waiting to return to museums in person we can enjoy the masterpieces of the greatest painters on the streets of England.
