Those who have tried it desperately try not to fall back on it, those who have never tried it are afraid as if it were the plague. Loneliness is a state of mind, but also a physical state hated by everyone. I’m not talking about those healthy moments that we dedicate to ourselves, that we cut out for our passions, I’m talking about when we’re alone, partly because of us, partly because of external factors, but we desperately need someone we don’t have.
The animated short Best Friend, made by the students of the Gobelins school, is set in a future in which they seem to have found a solution to loneliness. It is a device that deludes you that you have friends, an illusion that lasts just the time of a capsule. But the desire, or need, to have friends leads the protagonist to abuse this system, so as to make it his drug.
Sometimes the fear of being alone leads to prefer an imaginary world, but almost never this leads to something good.
