Being able to be alone is a universal desire, it helps us to really know who we are and teaches us to have a balanced relationship with our emotions. But it is difficult.
It is on this aspect that reflect How to be alone, the animated video made by Argentine motion designer Leo G. Franchi on the words written by Pádraig Ó Tuama.
Ó Tuama’s poetry places the importance of self-knowledge at the center of the discourse. Being able to analyze oneself and have self-awareness is infact fundamental to understand one’s own value within the world and to make peace with one’s emotions.
On this assumption the drawings of Leo G. Franchi can imagine the concepts expressed by poetry perfectly. With a skillful use of shapes and colors, his animations eviscerate our deepest thoughts and are able to represent the needs, desires and mental states of each of us.
How to Be Alone was made for The On Being Project, an American non-profit initiative that since 2003 brings together art, poetry, culture and spirituality.
Pádraig Ó Tuama and Leo G. Franchi’s contribution is part of Poetry Film, a wider series of animations visible here.
