Typozoo: The Typography Zine That Turns Into a Game

What happens when a chicken becomes a glyph? It’s from a surreal question like this that Typozoo, the new zine created by Cosimo Miccoli, takes shape. A visual experiment in which typography sheds its functional role to become a playground—an imaginary zoo populated by letters, signs, symbols, and strange beasts. A universe balanced between graphic precision and boundless imagination.

Miccoli, a freelance designer, grew up with the natural instinct of someone who looks for connections, patterns, hidden stories. His work ranges from branding to art direction, but it’s in the small things—the details of a glyph or the unusual shape of a ligature—where he finds inspiration to build worlds. Typozoo was born just like that, from a moment of stillness in front of the glyphs panel in Illustrator, turning methodical observation into a creative act.

The zine isn’t just a printed object—it’s a statement of intent. An invitation to look at things differently, to break down visual categories and make room for the absurd and the possible. On its pages, visual grammar reinvents itself: glyphs no longer speak the language of text, but that of images. And in this new code, impossible animals, hybrid creatures, and mutant alphabets sneak in.

There’s something deeply playful and serious at the same time in Cosimo Miccoli’s Typozoo. It’s the kind of project born from a spontaneous spark, but one that also carries a reflection on design as a tool for exploration. As Cosimo himself explains, it all started with a childlike approach—nurtured since building sandcastles on the beaches of Salento, and shaped through the digital haze of social media and contemporary design.

In an era where everything tends to serve a specific purpose, Typozoo reminds us that even the strangest questions deserve an answer—perhaps one that’s printed, illustrated, to be flipped through and treasured.
