At the heart of Valentino‘s work and philosophy is beauty. Not intense as an aesthetic dictatorship that obeys strict and severe canons, but that which is born of harmony. Beauty is a way according to Valentino.
Last Friday, the maison founded Valentino Garavani in 1957 presented its Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2022-23 collection entitled The Beginning.
And to do so, Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli chose a unique, historic, almost mystical setting, which, however, also represents a return, the steps of Piazza di Spagna in Rome.

A show that is almost a eulogy of slowness, in total contrast to the speed with which things move around us, where time seems almost to contract. An unreasonable aesthetic and visual frenzy, bordering on the pathological in some cases. In reality, our brain, our mind, travels at a slow pace because it is a slow machine that should stand on reflexivity and thought, which would be appropriate to move on tracks where we walk at a leisurely pace.
A collection that both explicates and clearly photographs the idea of beauty promoted and championed by Pier Paolo Piccioli. An idea that makes central what was once peripheral and protagonist who had not even appeared before; that finds glamour in what is imperfect and far from the canon. An idea that of beauty definitely broadens the spectrum by making it real and contemporary.
Everything still begins where everything has its beginning, always: in Rome, in Atelier, the place where creations and inventions come to life through the hands and stories of those who make the clothes, those who imprint character through their work. 102 looks we were able to admire as they followed each other on this natural catwalk with the slowness I mentioned earlier, while Labrinth‘s beautiful voice provided a soundtrack to the enchantment.
Colors, themes, moments, materials, signs and lines that, in an ideal comparison between those who founded the brand and those who run it, express the right and the feelings that have always characterized Maison Valentino. And it is precisely the fashion show that is the ultimate goal of this confrontation/dialogue, its materialization, the final realization of an idea.
A journey made without ever following the route marked on old maps that are now obsolete and that rewrites the concept of beauty based exclusively on emotions and feelings.
