The Campania – Lombardy axis has hardly been this bright.
The credit for this is definitely the Neapolitan producer Dat Boi Dee, who has joined forces with the two rappers J Lord and Baby Gang to give life to an all-new track. “HOOD LOVE”, the single available from December 3 for Polydor/Universal Music, is a precise summary of the street verve that has always united talents in this genre so wide but never boring thanks to releases of this type.
A song bursting and aggressive, with self-referential lyrics and that goes smoothly from the first listen. Also thanks to a trap beat orchestrated well and that winks at the beatmakers of the past, thanks to samples in it.
Dat Boi Dee, class ’91, has certainly grown up listening to the great producers of hip-hop and you can hear it. That’s why, intrigued by his musical background, Collater.al decided to ask him for an exclusive playlist that could sum up the tracks that influenced his childhood and brought him here:
“In a way this is simply a list of the first 15 songs that come to mind when I think about my childhood. I grew up listening to records for days and nights. There was no YouTube, there was no Spotify, it was all research. A whole day to download a record, the phone bill flying around and maybe you didn’t even like the record. Everything I do today is a substitute for years spent searching for music that would excite me.”
