We propose to you the twenty-sixth volume of Vinilica exactly one week before the MI AMI festival, one of the best appointment for the new Italian music that will animate the Circolo Magnolia of Milan with its fourteenth edition.
On this occasion, we decided to ask the playlist of May to someone who know this festival very well, the artistic director Carlo Pastore who, in addition to giving us some ‘good music to listen to, also tell us what it means to build the line up of one of the most popular events of Italy.
“Building the line up of MI AMI – Musica Importante a Milano – is a complicated and fascinating work, which I have refined year after year but which forces me to question myself at every edition. The Festival – born in 2005 in a national context in which the Italian music industry was in disarray (thanks to and not because of the internet) – has contributed decisively to unlock some chakras, applying the European festivals model (same place, more stages at the same time, more days, more disciplines) to Italian music alone, creating a continuous relationship with artists difficult to encode and with the up-and-coming singers that over the years have demonstrated their value and often achieved great success. So it was not easy this year to make a competitive line up. Did we succeed in this? Maybe. But the Festival mission continues to be to present different music. That’s why in this playlist I decided to give space not to names that have grown with us and now have a very large audience (the so-called headliners), but to all the less known but highly interesting/ fresh/potential/different/beautiful/good. The headliners of the future? Maybe, but not necessarily. Success is not an obligatory condition. You listen to it and then you understand it.”
