Vivienne Westwood and Juergen Teller in the alleys of Naples

A real, visceral Naples, made up of mopeds in the alleys of the Quartieri Spagnoli, plastic tables and chairs on the Lungomare of Mergellina, boats abandoned by fishermen and houses that evoke the Neapolitan Renaissance of D’Angiò and Aragona that takes us back in time to the 16th century. This is the backdrop for Vivienne Westwood‘s latest campaign for Spring/Summer 2022 shot by Juergen Teller.

For the occasion, the German photographer also called in Westwood herself and the brand’s Creative Director Andreas Kronthaler, as well as a series of talents that perfectly match the peculiar and unique context.
“We had freedom again! – it was the first time since the pandemic started that we could go and visit our producer & friend in Italy. Vivienne was also being honoured with the Florence Biennale lifetime achievement award, so it felt like an opportunity. I’ve always wanted to show Vivienne Naples. That’s how it all came about”, said Kronthaler, who then added about the choice of Teller: “I know how much Juergen loves the city- he has a deep affection and connection to it”.

A lookbook that plays with contrasts: the punk opulence typical of Westwood’s legacy as well as the counter-cultural aesthetics that clash with the normality and the brutal and direct simplicity of a contemporary and feverish Naples.
