The second edition of Note D’Artista. Segni e Suoni, the project conceived by the Associazione Gommalacca Factory with the contribution of the Regione Calabria, the patronage of the Municipality of Cosenza and the support of the Scuola e del Museo del Fumetto di Cosenza, which takes shape through laboratories, artists’ residencies, workshops and shows.
This year the figure around whom the program has been developed is Alfonso Rendano, a 19th-century Italian pianist and composer, more precisely from Carolei in the province of Cosenza.

As well as being a leading figure in the world of music and having written the opera ‘Consuelo’, Alfonso Rendano is best known for one of what can be described as a small, great invention. In fact, it is to him that we owe the presence of the third pedal, or independent pedal, which allowed the possibility of greater technical evolutions.

The composer’s life and works are the focus of in-depth meetings, laboratories, such as those with Dario Della Rosa, Brunori Sas and Francesco di Bella, and workshops held by artists such as Beppe Stasi and Gianluca Gallo.

Gallo has been entrusted with the task of producing a graphic novel published by Round Robin that will cover Rendano’s adolescence and career.

With his minimalist style, characterized by pastel colours, simple shapes and very little text, Gianluca Gallo has managed to condense the composer’s life into a book suitable for everyone. In addition, to allow readers to have a complete overview and fully understand the work of Alfonso Rendano, by scanning a QR code on the pages you can listen to the magnificent music of the Master.

Note D’Artista. Segni e Suoni and Gianluca Gallo’s graphic novel are the perfect representation of what happens when two arts, music and illustration, meet and mix.
