Having a twin brother or sister is scientifically, and not only, something more than having just a brother or a sister. A twin grows with you in the maternal womb, he or she explores the world few seconds or minutes before or after you, he or she is your mirror, your half, he or she is an inexplicable bond made very often by simple gestures.

On this kind of relationship, the photographer born in Detroit but London-based, Peter Zelewski, after the project People of London, has dedicated his time creating a new photographic series, Alike But Not Alike, searching for couples of twins and portraying them in his photographs.

We expect them to be one identical to the other, but Peter shows us some aspects of the reality that in the expression, in a detail of the body or face there’s a difference, that makes them one unique than to the other, but always linked in a permanent and often invisible way. Or he tells us the story of a couple as Sophie and Polly’s one that are monozygotic and they have almost the same DNA fingerprints.
