We asked a photographer – our own – to let us peek into his cell phone gallery to trace his 2023 through his snapshots. Andrés Juan Suarez granted us access to his iPhone, the device he uses when his camera isn’t at hand. From January to December, a multitude of candid moments captured on the fly, affirming the notion that “it’s not the tool, but the eye behind it that matters.” His immediate and documentary style is even more prevalent in these “amateur” shots, echoing the photographer’s contemporary aesthetic. People and places from his life appear in unposted snapshots, which we’re sharing today with the aim of bringing to life those photos that would otherwise be forgotten in the cloud, much like all the images in our galleries unless they end up in an Instagram photo dump.
