In Chongqing, Nanshan District, located in southeast China, the architecture and interior design firm AOE – specializing in the construction of commercial buildings, hotels, etc. – has renovated the facade of the Shanxiao Sales Pavilion.
The designers for the realization of the project have decided to maintain a traditional architecture that does not affect the harmony of the surrounding landscape. The use of a modern style combined with classical creation techniques has transformed the pavilion into a reference building throughout the area. The site is structured in two parts: the sales office which is hidden in nature and gives the idea of being a secret place and the most visible commercial part. The entire building is surrounded by a lake in which flowerbeds float, over which a bridge passes to allow access to the structure.
On the facade there is a large perforated grid that allows the sun to penetrate the structure whose shape is inspired by the clouds of the landscape characteristic of the district.
The walls of the Shanxiao Sales Pavilion are entirely glazed and the shapes of the perforated shutters integrate perfectly with the surrounding nature, so the entire structure seems to float in the clouds.
The effect is that the natural fog becomes another facade of the building, creating a kind of wonderland in Nanshan. The structure is not only intended as a new work of architecture, but also as a work of art that adds value to the cultural life of the city.
