- UPDATE 9 SEPTEMBER 2020
After many rumors, the confirmations we were waiting for finally arrived. Apple has finally presented what it calls its most ambitious retail project.
The Marina Bay Sands store will open to the public on Thursday, September 10, 2020. However, to ensure the health and well-being of guests, Thursday’s visits will be by appointment only.
The first floating store offers a 360° panoramic view of the city and its skyline, completely made of 114 pieces of glass and with only 10 narrow vertical uprights that ensure the structural connection.
The interior and furnishings will follow the model of the Apple stores, the only difference being the oculus, inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, located at the apex of the dome, providing a ray of light that crosses the space.
Apple has begun work on its new floating store on the waters of Marina Bay in the city of Singapore.
The new Marina Bay Sands store “will be the heart of creativity, a place created to capture your ideas and passions. It will be a space to explore, connect and create something new“.
The structure is impeccably detailed, with an almost perfectly spherical shape that ends at water level with a mirror base. The glass seems to have a sort of alternating strips of varying opacity, presumably to temper the tropical heat of Singapore.
At the moment on the glass is applied an elegant metallic gray adhesive similar to the Mac, probably to hide the interior from the public before the opening.
The main access to the sphere seems to be through a curved wooden bridge that starts from the pedestrian promenade of Marina Bay Sands.
Apple has not yet specified any opening date or given further details, but the wait is really long to see the first floating store in the world.
