Arkadiusz Szwed turns egg cooking into art

With EGGSplosion, artist and designer Arkadiusz Szwed turns the kitchen into a laboratory, giving life to a project that moves between photography, art, material research, and ceramic design. Developed in Warsaw, EGGSplosion presents itself as a collection of images documenting real eggs at the moment when, subjected to precise cooking conditions, they yield to internal pressure and break. These are not simple domestic accidents, but a rigorously observed process in which heat, time, and tension become variables of study.

Each shot captures a specific phase of the transformation: the surface cracking, the volume expanding, the structure losing integrity. The egg thus becomes a temporary container of invisible forces, a microcosm in which matter reacts and transforms under thermal stress. It is precisely within this ephemeral dimension that Szwed identifies a design potential.

Through systematic observation, the artist catalogs rupture patterns, textures, and deformations. These images do not remain isolated but accumulate as data within a visual archive that serves as the foundation for formal development. The project thus takes on a dual nature: on one hand documentation, on the other method.

The transition from organic fragility to the solidity of ceramics is at the core of EGGSplosion. Starting from the collected observations, Szwed creates porcelain objects that do not faithfully replicate the exploded eggs, but reinterpret their internal logics: surfaces under tension, sudden openings, irregular edges. The resulting forms seem to retain an inner pressure, as if the moment of rupture had been frozen within the material.

EGGSplosion thus occupies a hybrid space where photography and design interact through matter. By documenting an event that is both common and overlooked, Arkadiusz Szwed constructs a visual and design language that transforms the ephemeral into the permanent, and the unexpected into method.
