After a long process of planning and development, a new square has been built in the Barona district of Milan, designed by Camilla Falsini. This urban space is part of the Piazze Aperte per ogni scuola program, an initiative aimed at transforming urban areas into gathering and play spaces for the community.
The 800-square-meter area, previously used as a parking lot, has been redesigned and transformed into a pedestrian zone dedicated to play. The project actively involved local children through a storytelling workshop led by Spaziopensiero Onlus. During this creative journey, young participants explored the neighborhood, invented fantastical characters, and crafted a story that reflects their relationship with urban space.
This experience also led to the creation of an illustrated book, Il Camminastorie – L’incredibile Viaggio di Endry il Serpendrago, which narrates the adventures of the characters created by the children. The book was distributed to students at the school, providing them with an even deeper connection to the square and the stories they helped imagine.
The inauguration of this new space is not only a step forward in the urban redevelopment of the Barona district but also serves as a successful example of collaboration between institutions, private companies, and citizens. Thanks to this project, children had the opportunity to become active participants in transforming their environment, creating a space that will continue to inspire new stories and adventures in the future.
